5 Days & 4 Nights in Antalya

Let’s get right into it....I don’t write travel blogs but Facebook came up with this new blog looking notes section, so I thought I’d give it a shot! (to be later copied to my actual blog)

We didn’t get to see everything we wanted to but we got to check out most things. We hired a car, got the GPS to direct us around in English and just ventured about.

Day 1

We took a little drive to Kadir’s Tree Houses in Olympia. This was a 2.5hr drive from our hotel in Lara but well worth the trip. We all took our shoes off and immediately chilled in a half tree house and had the best beer ever! I’m saying Bomonti, my travel mates will say Amsterdam.

Why should this be on your list of places to check out in Antalya....well because it’s on the list of the most unusual hotels in the world. http://www.unusualhotelsoftheworld.com/... We didn’t want to leave...and neither will you :)

Day 2
Our day started at 5:30am wake up for a 6:30am pick up.....this was after we only went to bed only a few hours before that, because we decided a swim in the Mediterranean late night is exactly what we should be doing.
We booked only 1 guided tour and this was the day we went to see Demre, Myra and Kekova. We started off in Kekova, the underwater city of centuries gone by. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t really playing along so it was a bit overcast and chilly but the boat ride and sight seeing totally made up for that! It also helps that Raki warms the cockles of your heart and everywhere else...
On our boat trip we passed by Simena, the place with the world’s smallest theatre. There is no land access to Simena and you need to be taken there by boat or kayak.

A little excerpt from the book "Globetrotter Travel Guide: Turkey"

The sunken city of Kekova is gorgeous!! Next stop Demre...
Went to check out the ruins of St. Nicholas Church...yep, good old Santa :) You were given the option to make 3 wishes on his glass case but can never tell anyone until they come true....Obviously like everyone else, I wished for World Peace...oops, that might not come true now! Oh well.

Day 3
We ventured out in the little car again with the world’s most annoying GPS. We dubbed her Tracy. Went to Duden waterfalls and Perge. Both places are a must see if you ever visit Antalya!
Duden Waterfalls

Perge
A version of tree pose at the Pillars of Agora was a must. On the plus side, since we drove there ourselves, we missed all the tour buses and basically had the place to ourselves. Suggestion: go after 16:00 in the afternoon to avoid being part of the masses and enjoy having the chance to slowly explore the ruins.

Day 4
The Public Holiday no one warned us about. The Turks take their public holiday seriously. As in, not even tourist attractions like caves were open to go take a hike in. Living in Dubai for almost 15 years, Eid normally means everything is open for days!!! Luckily, Old Town was busy and we spent the afternoon roaming around. After taking a ride around in a horse and carriage, that almost blinded Smurf, we decided to stroll inside Hadrian’s Gate and enjoy the lovely spring afternoon.

Did we see everything we wanted to in the 4 days? No. Was it totally worth it? HELL YEAH!

Flights and hotel package were booked thru http://www.ambreenn.com/, one day tour was booked thru Viator.
